Fingerprints of Time.
Unlocking Time

From the oldest meteorites to today’s newspaper, everything is imprinted with the date it was made.
Sometimes you can see it and sometimes you need special tools to read the hidden code.

Delving into the museum collections we can show you how we find the ages of objects and how important dating is in our everyday lives.

Fingerprints of Time is an interactive exhibition that invites you to explore how we find out how old things are and how we make sense of the past.

Use the disk above or the navigation on the left to visit the various subjects in the exhibition.

What our Visitors Think

’It’s very interesting and the children have enjoyed it. We’ve learned a lot and we liked being able to compare the same objects from different eras.’
’It’s good because there’s lots of stuff to do - you’re not just running round being bored!’
